First steel cutting for the construction of second, modern car – passenger ferry ordered by Canadinan owner was held in Remontowa Shipbuilding, member of Remontowa Holding on 10th of April 2015.
Representatives of the owner and the shipyard as well were attended the ceremony. BCF project manager Daniel Riis pushed a button activating the plasma cutting CNC machine. It is worth mentioning that a keel-laying ceremony for the first sister ferry (yard no. B 615/1) was held on 6th of March 2015, while a steel-cutting operation had taken place on 16th of January.
The ferry is being built on the basis of the contract for the construction of three double – ended car – passenger ferries signed in July 2014. These will be the first vessels in the currently 36 ship fleet, utilizing Dual Fuel engines capable of running both in Diesel and LNG mode. Each of the vessels will be capable of taking on board 150 personal cars and 600 passengers.
The vessels were designed from scratch by the Design Office Remontowa Marine Design, a member of the Remontowa Holding. They will comply with rules and regulations of the classification society - Lloyd’s Register, who will supervise the building process, and the government agenda - Transport Canada.
Remontowa Shipbuilding is currently involved in the construction of 18 vessels in total. The orderbook consists of five car - passenger ferries, five arctic icegoing supply vessels for Greenland, four platform supply vessels, a cable - layer, an anchor handling towing supply vessel for the Arctic, a minehunter and a tallship.
