On 6-8 September this year, the International Maritime Fair and Conference BALTEXPO 2021 was held for the 21st time in the AmberExpo Conference and Exhibition Centre in Gdańsk. It is one of the most important events dedicated to maritime economy and shipbuilding industry in Central and Eastern Europe.
The fair was attended by 116 exhibitors from 9 countries and the programme also included 60 hours of conferences and debates.
This year's edition of BALTEXPO was of exceptional importance. The first economic event in Europe organised after the pandemic period attracted particular interest of business and administration representatives as well as experts.
The BALTEXPO Council has awarded the very special "Golden Anchor" prize. It was awarded posthumously to Piotr Soyka, the chairman and founder of REMONTOWA Holding Capital Group.
- Piotr Soyka is one of the most prominent figures in the national pantheon of Polish maritime industry throughout history. Thanks to his willpower, experience, managerial talent and gift for working with people, Piotr Soyka led to the creation of a large, modern, one hundred percent Polish shipbuilding company known around the world. The company, which was established at a time of a global crisis in the shipbuilding industry has become an employer for many thousands of people on the coast and tens of thousands throughout Poland working in companies cooperating with the REMONTOWA Group. Piotr Soyka was not only an outstanding business man, but above all a visionary and strategist. The great man who we miss very much today - said Sławomir Majman, Vice-President of the Warsaw Exhibition Board S.A., the organiser of Baltexpo.
REMONTOWA Holding is currently the largest shipbuilding group in Poland, an industry leader and one of the largest employers in Pomerania.
The award was accepted by the wife of the late Piotr Soyka - Bogna Soyka.
- On behalf of the Family and REMONTOWA Holding group, I would like to thank you wholeheartedly for this special award to Piotr Soyka. Thank you for appreciating Piotr's contribution to the development of the maritime industry in Poland and worldwide. I will not repeat after the previous speaker all the merits of my husband for the shipbuilding industry, but I will say just one thing: shipyards were his passion, his pride, his family, his love. It was his life - said Bogna Soyka.
